Guy Caron was elected Member of Parliament for Rimouski-Neigette—Témiscouata—Les Basques in 2011 and re-elected in 2015.
Guy has served as the NDP’s Energy and Natural Resources critic and deputy Finance critic. As our voice in Ottawa, he has led the charge against devastating Employment Insurance reforms and cuts to Canada Post and Radio-Canada.
Locally, Guy has advocated for improving key infrastructure in our region, such as wharves that are in dire need of repair. He has also worked to improve access to cell phone networks.
Before his election to Parliament, Guy was a researcher and economist with the Communications, Energy and Paperworks Union of Canada (CEP), where he was responsible for forestry-related issues.
He was president of the University of Ottawa Student Federation (1992-94) and national president of the Canadian Federation of Students (1994-96). He has also worked for the Canadian Race Relations Foundation and the Council of Canadians, where he was responsible for campaigns relating to Canada-U.S. and health care.
Guy obtained his Bachelor of Arts in Communications from the University of Ottawa in 1992 and his Master’s in Economics from the University of Quebec in Montreal in 2001.
